BOB has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember. He started working in oils in about 1959 - in days when there was no-one to assist him and he had to struggle by himself. Later he attended night classes at a local Technical School.

In 1977 he first tried watercolor, won over by the "pure color, vitality and magic" he saw in the work of the late Arthur Markham, who was tutor at weekend workshops held at the Sale Regional Art Gallery. Since those lessons Bob has strived to attain the same standards, along the way becoming a recognised watercolorist in his own right.
Another artist who offered Bob a lot of encouragement and guidance was the late Lance Sullivan. More recently he attended a number of classes with David Taylor to further advance his watercolor technique.

In 1997, after more than 30 years in the printing industry, and persistent practice at his only hobby, art, Bob was able to make painting his full time career. This was followed by painting trips to Italy in 1997 and France in 1998. Both these trips resulted in major exhibitions at the La Trobe Regional Gallery in his home town of Morwell

Bob has received many awards for his paintings at art shows throughout country and metropolitan Victoria, and his work is represented in public, corporate and private collections in Australia and overseas.

Bob's paintings reflect his great love for the Australian countryside, a love originating from the many hours spent on the family farm at Hamilton, Victoria, exploring the Grampians and walking the sand dunes and beaches of Western Victorian coastline. He loves its moods, its light, especially the wonderful secrets it shows to those who care to look for them.
